Working on the Trailer gang
Posted on May, 24 2008 at 11 PM
Us peeps were finally able to get all together again and watch some trailers. Here are the peanut gallery quotes from tonight’s festivities with Jimison, Courtney, Jodie and I:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
“Do they ever wash the pants or is that part of the magic?” – Oscar
“That looks dumb.” – Jodie
“Poorly conceived.” – Jimison
“I feel like the people that made this movie don’t even know what it is about.” – Jimison
“Is it like the X-rated spinoff of ‘Dumbo’?” – Oscar
IF : Worry
Posted on May, 24 2008 at 02 AM
My entry for this week’s Illustration Friday theme of “worry”. It’s nice and big (1600px wide, to be exact), so feel free to use it as a wallpaper, if you like.
Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. – Matthew 6:34
Narrow Stairs
Posted on May, 23 2008 at 02 PM
This week, I bought the latest Death Cab for Cutie album, Narrow Stairs and it is just so gorgeous. The sound is immersive and the lyrics are spell-binding.
As I was reading a devotion this morning from Psalms, I fell into some thoughts about the song “I Will Possess Your Heart” that gave it some real meaning. In Psalms 16:9-11, David says:
No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.
My body rests in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.
When I first heard the song, I thought it was about a boy pursuing a girl that isn’t really interested in him, but every time I hear it now, I hear God calling me, wanting to draw me closer. He is after my heart and has plans to guide my future, but only if I am willing to surrender my all.
Here are the lyrics for your enjoyment:
How I wish you could see the potential
The potential of you and me
It’s like a book elegantly bound, but
In a language that you can’t read just yet
You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find, love
I will possess your heart
You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find, love
I will possess your heart
Vector Study
Posted on May, 22 2008 at 10 PM
This is an Adobe Illustrator vector study I did, using some of the excellent look that the Blue Moon beer logo has. Classic typography and subtle colors. Simply beautiful … even if I don’t drink.
To create the faded embossed line in tan area, I had to learn to create a mask layer in Illustrator, something which could really be a lot easier … seeing as how often I like to use it now.

Hiding via CSS
Posted on May, 16 2008 at 08 PM
I am in the middle of some research for my Graphic Web Design course and I am in search of an article I thought I had read a while ago.
If I am remembering correctly, it outlined the pros and cons of using the two typical methods of hiding content using CSS styles.
Option #1:
selector { display:none; }
Option #2:
selector { text-indent: -9999px; }
The second is a little trick I first saw Zeldman use, but I know the article I am thinking of talked about how it can cause problems when using a right-aligned layout (which I have experienced first-hand), but I can’t seem to find it again.
Anyone else know how to use Google search better than me? ;)
FCC Winter Park - Mockup
Posted on May, 14 2008 at 03 PM
Here is an initial mockup for the site I am currently working on for Jim Book at First Christian Church of Winter Park.
The logo was provided to me and the main goal of both designs was a tight integration with their new identity.
The final design will use this layout and style, but the color palette of the other design.
Let me know what you think.

God has helped me find some focus in the past couple of days and it is really benefiting my freelance work a lot. The feeling of accomplishment in cleaning out my Inbox and progressing several projects is wonderful. Plus I have also found some time to update my city collection, as well as some casual reading.
If you haven’t already checked out the bible reading Del.ico.us link I added a few days ago, be sure to. It is pretty handy.
These sketches are for a project I am working on for Gold Coast Christian Camp, which is exciting, as much of my teen years where spent visiting and working there. Shout out to the 9-5-4! ;)
Vinyls

So I have really been enjoying the thrift store shopping I have been doing lately. Some new shirts, an electric pencil sharpener, and more wonderful goodies.
Besides two MXPX albums that I didn’t already have, the two books I picked up this weekend at the local Christian thrift store are probably what I am most excited about. A Wrinkle in Time and Loser by Jerry Spinelli (my favorite childhood author). Yay!
(These LPs, by the way, are Michelle’s. I am working on fixing her record player so that those Journey and Benatar albums I have can get some run time. ;)
